Designing @Innovation Lab = Exploring Rough Ideas with Rapid Prototyping & MVPs
As a product designer at an innovation lab, my task was to create MVPs as quickly as possible so that we can evaluate which solutions are worth pursuing.
My project was presented to me as a rough concept and I had to figure out what exactly to include and design.
my impact
Conceptualizing a Generative AI Strategy for Executive Leadership
As the sole designer, I built this concept from zero to one and presented an MVP for an internal tool leveraging generative AI directly to upper management. The pitch gave leaders a concrete idea on how AI could enhance daily operational workflows.

My Contributions
Stakeholder Alignment: Conducted weekly focus sessions with direct users to align on core constraints, guardrails, and data-sharing parameters
Standardized Workflows: Defined explicit input and output formats to replace chaotic, unstandardized AI prompts
Governance & Security: Addressed data privacy concerns by establishing user input pattern for generating content through AI
Executive Pitch: Delivered a clear, targeted strategy to leadership for a centralized tool designed to surface fintech insights
problem
Rapid adoption of AI introduced a wave of unforeseen friction
The potential of AI was exploding, colleagues were exploring different ways to integrate generative AI into their daily workflows.
This project was completed just one month before major AI players came out with an enterprise tier 🫨
High level sneak peeks
Introduced 3 core data visualizations to capture AI insights

Updated data visualizations
Overreliance on applying designs found in competitor products led to design visualizations that did not provide the maximum value to users. Based off stakeholder interviews, I proposed the use of multiple axes, increased visibility of data legends, and multidimensional data representations.
Designed a generative AI workflow to create graphs and article summaries based on multiple user inputs

Generative AI workflow
My proposed workflow allowed users to regenerate inputs continuously and provide constraints on generated output
Expanded style guide for all products across the Innovation Lab

Expanded Style Guide Example from WireFramer
While completing design tasks, I noticed numerous design inconsistencies across and within products. As a self-started initiative, I added multiple design components and specified their use cases to the Innovation Lab's design system, which previously only contained fonts, colors, and two button states.
Reflection
This project made me learn…
Shortly after wrapping this project, major AI players launched enterprise tiers that solved the core problems identified. It was a clear reminder that as a designer, I need to stay closely attuned to new technology so I can anticipate shifts and design for where technology is going, not just where it is today.
Working in an engineering-first environment taught me to iterate quickly with precision. Partnering closely with developers meant presenting designs quickly, while also standing firm on design QA to ensure usability standards
